Today is my 55th birthday. I woke up to a sign on my bathroom mirror that read: "Happy Birthday Baby - I'm glad you're alive. You're so f-ing awesome at 55." (Best husband ever - the man needs to write a book - he's f-ing awesome!)
There was a time I wasn’t quite sure I’d make it this far. When I first became a mom I remember praying to God to at least see my babies grow into adults.
As someone who lives by the tenet, “what we focus on multiplies” I have adapted a new daily prayer; a prayer of unending gratitude.
I sat in my backyard this morning, looking around at the new buds popping on the trees, the flowers that recently bloomed and my dogs laying by my side and began thinking of the many things I’m grateful for in this life. Here are 55 of them!
Mainly, as I sat in my yard, I connected with the love I have for #55 – LIFE! There’s so much more yet everything in life, the ups and the downs, bring something to be grateful for. Oh yea, knowing what I know now, there are a few things I might do differently - then again, not. It’s been a hell of a ride!
Here's a video of a favorite scene of my husbands and mine, from the movie Parenthood. In this scene, Steve Martin was talking about how stressed he was just before his Grandma walks in who begins talking about her love of the roller coaster.
She says: “I always wanted to go again. It was so interesting to me that a ride could make you so frightened, so scared, so excited, so sick, and so thrilled all together. Some didn’t like it. They went on the merry-go-round. That just goes around. Nothing. I like the roller coaster. You get more out of it.”
Enjoy the roller coaster of life!
