This week I'm celebrating the number 10.
Ten years ago I self-published my first book, The Blisstory Journal - The Blissful History of Your Life - 365 questions about YOU and YOUR life. Although it wasn't on the Best Sellers list I did sell over 2500 copies in the first couple of months and it went out to seven different countries! That was super exciting news for me - before Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram were such big deals! Yes, I'm patting myself on the back here. :)
The Blisstory Journal was inspired by a gift from my husband. He gave me a candy jar of over 365 questions, one for every day of the year. He said he wanted to know all about his favorite person :) He called it his own recipe for a great marriage!
Well, his recipe worked. We are very happily married and many of those questions still come up today - simple reminders to stay connected to our bliss!
The Blisstory Journal includes room to write in the answers to 365 diverse, engaging, thought provoking and enlightening questions from “If your life were a book, what would the description on the back read?” and “When you wake in the morning, what is the first thought that usually crosses your mind?” to “Describe a scent that brings you back to your childhood” and “List the content of your purse or wallet” with the last page, “What does bliss mean to you?”
It's really a gift of love and learning. What I learn about the people that answer the questions is beyond anything I hear over a cup of coffee. The questions actually encourage people to share themselves, good, bad or indifferent.
In fact, when my mom was proofing the book for me she shared a story she remembered from her childhood. She would ask her mom for ice cream. Her mom would answer, "It's up to your dad". Then she would tell her dad that her mom wanted to go for ice cream and off they went. I don't know about you, but that really made me smile.
Speaking of smiles, one of the questions is "List a few things that make you smile."
Don't over think it. Close your eyes right now and think of a few things. Now write them down and put the list some place you will see it often. Every now and then we need a little reminder to smile.
Off the top of my head here are 10 things that bring a smile to my face:
Outside temps over 50
Hearing the words, "Thank YOU"
Saying the words, "Thank YOU"
Seeing my grand kids
Spending time with my family and friends
Bird watching with my husband
The dogs that live in my house
Thinking about LOVE
To commemorate the 10-year anniversary of The Blisstory Journal I'm giving it away!
