Siri help I've fallen and can't get up

For many weeks leading up to October 2, I had been eliminating stuff from my life, slowing down, asking the Universe for a little help in creating “regular-ness” in my life.

The Universe spoke loud and clear – time to STOP EVERYTHING.

On October 2, as I was videotaping a morning chorus from the birds, while walking my three dogs, (not practicing mindfulness) I fell and fractured my femur. I laid on the pavement thinking WTF – knowing that something was terribly wrong and saying to the Universe, “I guess I wasn’t working fast enough on slowing down”. (Is that kind of an oxymoron?)

Thank God for Siri – I think I should be a spokesperson for Apple and iPhone - the following is how help arrived:

"Hey Siri" – Her response - 'How can I help you High Priestess' – Yes, she calls me the High Priestess

“Siri call Molly”  (to pick up dogs)
“Siri call 911" (to pick me up)
“Siri text Jeff" –  “Hi honey, hope your day started off well.  I fell and think I fractured my hip.  I’m on the corner of ……..  I already called 911”.
“Siri call Jeff" (he isn’t answering my text!)

And so starts the next leg of my journey.
My daughter picked up the dogs then came back to hang with me and EMS.  A neighbor came out to check on me. The police department and the fire department arrived to take me to the hospital.  My husband answered his phone and met us at the hospital.

For the first 3 1/2 hours after the injury I had no pain medication. Some people suggested I was in shock. I’m sure I was. I’m also sure that there was a lot more to it than that.

My medication is meditation and shamanic journeying - Plus the love and energy sent to me from my friends, family, and all of you - thank you!

When my family and the staff at the hospital saw the severity of the break, they were amazed that I was able to go that long without any type of pain medication. As the pain increased, or I felt stressed out, (because you KNOW these things happened) I would put my headphones on and listen to a meditation or breathe deep. I wasn’t trying to be a hero, that’s for sure. No, the reality is that I have been clean and sober for 27 years, by choice. During that time, I’ve only taken heavy duty pain medications three times - after surgeries - for two days. After that it was Tylenol and meditation.

With meditation, mind over matter so to speak, we have the potential to relieve our emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual body of suffering. I know this firsthand. Don’t get me wrong I am not saying that there isn’t a place for Western medicine. Obviously I’m able to walk again because of Western medicine. I am saying that there are many tools available to help you move through life with more ease and grace. Meditation/Journeying are two of those tools - The Art of Impeccable Soul Care!

24 hours later I was in an operating room having surgery for a displaced closed fracture of the femur.  Basically, more than one fracture, and a type of fracture that generally happens in elderly women or car accident victims.  The prognosis for long term success wasn’t that great.  In fact, it was grim.  Even the mortality rate sucked because they had to base my case on older women.  The surgeon projected an 18 to 24-month recovery, noting that “you will never be the same as you were the day before your fall.”  THAT IS NOT MY STORY - I’m not the same as I was the last second, are you?

Here I am four weeks later telling you that the surgeon has reduced my recovery time to one year and I am kicking ass on Physical Therapy – today, anyway.  It’s going to be a roller coaster, good days, OK days and GREAT DAYS!

How am I handling this?  By surrendering to what IS.  No need to look at the past or project the future.  Mindfulness mediation has taught me one thing.  Be present.  So, I am honoring this.  The ultimate form of self (soul) care.

My husband has my back at home and my dear friends Patty Shaw and Jacki Smith of Coventry Creations and The Candle Wick Shoppe, have my back at the studio. If their acts of selflessness are an indication of how karma comes back to you then I’d say I must have done something good because they are all stepping up for me in such big ways.  If it weren’t for my husband, I would be recovering in a rehab center instead of my own home.  He has taken on every role, with more kindness and compassion than I can begin to express.

The same rings true for Patty and Jacki, who are now holding space at Soul Practices while I do what I need to do – heal.  These two magical humans are continuing with my vision of creating a community by working with the service providers who shared the studio with me and offering the studio as a resource for those seeking a space to hold workshops, retreats, and one on one sessions. I'm sure they will both be cooking up a few magical classes and workshops of their own, so be sure to click the links above or reach out to them 🙂 For those of you who wish to utilize the space at Soul Practices, please call Patty at: 313-506-2711. If you haven’t met Patty and Jacki, schedule a time to do so.  They are two of my favorite people in the world.

I also want to say “thank you” to my kids and the community support of love, well wishes, prayers, positive intentions, visits, cards, crystals and VEGAN FOOD that have been sent my way.  It takes a village to hold each of us up.

Over the course of the next few weeks, depending on my healing progress, I will begin offering limited sessions at home and remotely.  If you, or anyone you know, is looking to connect with me in that way, please message me.
