Don’t You Worry Bout a Thing

This morning, my head was spinning. You know those days when your thoughts feel like a tornado—whipping through every corner of your mind, stirring up dust you thought had settled? That was me, behind the wheel, navigating traffic while my inner world felt anything but calm.
I was worrying about everything. Personal shifts. Family dynamics. The country’s batshit crazy administration and policy changes. ICE raids. Women’s rights being dragged back a century. You get the picture.
It was one of those moments where the weight of the world felt like it had taken up residence in my chest. And as I often do when the overwhelm creeps in, I whispered a prayer of surrender to those in the unseen. My Cosmic Council, my ancestors, Spirit—whoever was listening.
And then, like divine clockwork, the radio answered.
"Don't you worry 'bout a thing, mama' Cause I'll be standin', I'll be standin' for you..."—Stevie Wonder
I laughed. I cried. I exhaled. I cranked up the volume and sat in my car singing at the top of my lungs! When my husband came out to ask me a question I put my hand up as if to say "STOP" and continued to belt out "Don't You Worry Bout a Thing!" AHHH it felt so good!
Because sometimes, the Universe speaks in lyrics. Sometimes, it sends reminders through the rhythm of a song, the flicker of a candle, the rustle of leaves. And in that moment, I remembered: I am held. We are held.
Worry is seductive. It tricks us into believing that if we just think hard enough, plan better, or brace ourselves tighter, we’ll be safe. But safety doesn’t come from control—it comes from connection. From trust. From ritual.
That’s why I teach what I teach. That’s why I return to the drum, the breath, the circle. Because in turbulent times, ritual becomes our anchor. It’s how we remember who we are beneath the noise.
Here’s a simple practice I use when the world feels heavy:
1. Light a candle and name your worries aloud.
2. Place your hand on your heart and breathe deeply.
3. Call in support—from Spirit, ancestors, guides, your own cosmic council
or your own inner wisdom.
4. Play a song that lifts you (yes, Stevie Wonder counts).
5. Say aloud: “I release what I cannot control. I trust what I cannot see.”
Repeat often. Daily, if possible. Ok, many times a day, if needed.
If you’re feeling the weight of the world right now, you’re not alone. Remember: you are powerful. You are supported. And you are part of a rising tide of souls who are remembering how to live with intention, with heart, and with hope.
So don’t you worry about a thing, mama (and/or papa).
We’re standing for each other.
We’re standing for truth.
And those on the other side have our backs. Sometimes we just need validation!
